Description: This course introduces the static behavior of structures and strength of materials. Topics covered include: reactions, truss analysis, stability of structures, stress and strain at a point, shear and bending moment diagrams, stresses in beams, Mohr's Circle, column buckling, and deflection of beams. Laboratory sessions are included where students are asked to solve structural problems by building simple models and testing them.
