The broken windows theory, the theory that the disorder spreads like an epidemic, is a theory that was developed by two great scientists George Kelling and James Q. Wilson. The theory is based on the opinion that big quantity of minor crimes leads to the changes of the quality of the criminal activity as a whole.
The idea of the theory is that even minor disorder may cause rise to serious crimes. In other words, clear signs of confusion and non-compliance with the accepted norms of behavior by the majority of people provoke other people to forget about the rules, following the example. The result is a chain reaction 'decent' urban area can quickly turn into a cesspool where people are scared to go out. The result may be a chain reaction, when decent urban area can quickly turn into a cesspool where people are scared to go out.
It is evidence based that people are more likely to violate the accepted norms of behavior when they see that others act in the same way. The bad example is interpreted broadly, when people see that one of the accepted rules gets violated, people allow themselves to violate other rules, and a sense of impunity sends a signal calling for a more dangerous crimes.
Thus, meaningless drawings on the wall or the garbage left on the streets increases the number of thefts badly. These simple theory shows that a violation of social norms can grow like a snowball, and there is strong need to fight with the first manifestations of minor misbehaviors. Antisocial behavior can quickly become familiar to the majority in society, and then the system will be supported by itself.
