Executive summary

The network in an organization is the backbone with which all IT services are supported. A carefully designed network has the capability to support major activities in the organization without imposing bottlenecks. Network design should factor in scalability. This is because organizations grow and an expanded network is required to support increased users and activities.
In this paper, a network diagram is drawn depicting the current network of an organization with 10 employees. Further, the network is redesigned to accommodate 100 employees in the first year and 200 in subsequent years.
A company has grown from an initial 10 employees to 100 employees in one year. Year two projected growth is estimated to be another additional 100 employees based on a remote location. The aggressive growth has brought some unique challenges and opportunities. In the capacity of a network manager, I intend to display through this paper a network diagram for the initial 10 employees at the first year and the expanded diagram that supports the growth in subsequent years. The diagrams are designed with focus on hierarchy, redundancy, modularity and security.

NETWORK DIAGRAM 1

Currently, the company has a single remote warehouse and no off-site disaster recovery services or servers. The topology for this network is flat and the network is non-redundant.
In the first network, the networks connect peer to peer using single ADSL lines for internet access. In the second and third network, hierarchical model is adopted where scalability and changes is facilitated. Changes made in one system do not affect other systems hence oos managing, upgrading and expanding systems is decreased. Also, performance, redundancy are optimized in the new network setup.
