Simon Lee comprehends the role of social change as a negative force in the life of a common man. A part from the positive effects, it has negative consequences as well. The poetry is emotional and based on a universal theme. William Wordsworth has enigmatically defined the poetry as "the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility” in the Preface to Lyrical Ballads.
