Thomas More was one of the greatest English humanists and statesmen, a well-known writer, poet and social thinker, a symbol of true faith and a famous prisoner of conscience. He was born on 7 February 1478 into a wealthy family of a London lawyer. He received initial education in the grammar school of St. Anthony. At the age of thirteen he became a page in the House of the Archbishop of Canterbury, John Morton.
