The aging workforce is a fact of life for organizations. According to the last national census, the number of citizens aged 65 and older currently constitute 12 percent of the United States population, which is one out of eight people (Aoa.gov, 2015). According to The American Association of Retired People (2015), workers over the age of 50 comprised 27% of the national workforce in 2005.
