With a playful and invigorating music as the background score, the short video is not only entertaining but also teaches a great lesson. From the very beginning, teachers, parents and all elders build an image of a family in a child’s mind that consists of a mother, father and kids. However, the video offers a different perspective on a family. A family does not necessarily have to mean a married couple living a happy life with children. Any group of people who live together, care for each other, cater to each other’s needs and establish a bond, can be called a family.
The documentary also incorporates the topic of race and color. One of the children calls his father Japanese looking and his mother as a German. His pride in calling them his parents is enough to make all racists put their biases aside. Why should anyone be worried about white or black when to create a family, only genuine love and affection is needed?
One of the discoveries that I made through the voice of a little girl is that quite often, a child begins to blame himself/herself for the divorce of his/her parents. If this is the case, then it is necessary for the kids of the parents who undergo a divorce to have therapy sessions in which they are separately told that it is none of their fault that their parents got separated. This proactive stance could help a child who would otherwise keep holding himself/herself culpable and in the process, might start losing confidence and self-respect. The documentary, although short, is compendious and conveys copious lessons.
