Question 1

Russell Crowe would be the best fit to play Hamlet. Crowe made a career name when acting in Australia cinema and ultimately became a worldwide star. Hamlet’s role in the play is challenging and displays a clear picture of an emotionally disturbed character. His role is also a reflection of most other characters in the play. Evidently, Hamlet’s role is extremely challenging and requires an actor with vast experience in the acting field. Russell Crowe has featured in a number of projects like Gladiator (in which he won an Oscar award), Insider, State of Play, and Beautiful Mind. Crowe’s experience makes him well suitable for the challenging role of Hamlet. Additionally, Hamlet is a central character and further requires an actor who has familiarity in playing major roles. Crowe has taken up main roles in Broken City and Man of Steel.

Question 2

Hamlet does not trust women. He describes women as double-faced individuals who never say what they mean. The best one- line summary of Hamlet’s outlook of women is when he concludes a soliloquy is saying: “Frailty, thy name is woman!" (Act 1, Scene 1, line 146). However, Hamlet’s criticisms towards women can be justified as he is disturbed by what his mother did to his father. He is convinced that if his mother was unfaithful to his father, then every woman can commit such treachery. Similarly, many male characters in the play perceive women as undesirable and weak. Women are perceived as so unwanted, in fact, the only women possibly commit suicide. Evidently, this attitude is unacceptable especially in a time when men and women are viewed as equal.
