Human beings play a huge role in influencing what happens in the ecosystem. An example is the overfishing that is carried out thus impacting on the marine ecosystem. Moreover, pollution and the ever-changing climate have caused coral reefs to lose their ability to absorb and adapt to the natural disturbances. The overfishing brings about negative impacts to the marine systems which is a result of the increased human population. It contributes to the extinction of some of the marine life at a high rate. Some of the marine organisms that have a hard time recovering from these affects are the big bodied creatures such as sharks. Despite this human beings are not solely responsible. The increase of microalgae for instance has resulted to the loss of herbivores; this is somehow balanced out by the parrotfish which in turn feed on the microalgae.
Efforts are put in place to help in situations faced with possible extinction. Some of the efforts are such; excavators help to remove the large amounts of dead coral skeletons to bring about the survival of corals. The parrotfish also come in handy as the y help scrape out the reef carbonates. Despite parrot fishes being essential they existence is always threatened by overfishing which results to reduction in their numbers. The parrot fishes are responsible for grazing on the herbivores, sediment removal, bioerosion and coral predation. The activities carried out by the human population contributes highly on the ecosystem as it is a determiner on whether the ecosystem survives or is on a road to destruction. The future of coral reefs for instance, their coping capacity to the changes in climate and how they adapt to impacts of anthropogenesis can be influenced by human activities.
