The Republic of Zimbabwe is a non-coastal state. Its location is the southern Africa between rivers Zambezi and Limpopo. The largest city and the capital are in Harare. Zimbabwe’s economy shrunk significantly after 2000. It resulted in a desperate situation for the country and widespread poverty in addition to 80% rate of unemployment. The involvement of the state in the Democratic Republic of Congo war between 1998 and 2002 set the deterioration by draining hundreds of millions of dollars. The country has a major problem of hyperinflation from 2003 to 2009 after it suspended its currency. In 2008, it faced a 231 million percent peak hyperinflation.
Tourism is among the major factors that have contributed towards the decline. It involves the travel for recreation, religious, leisure, family or business purposes for a limited duration. Tourists are people who go to and stay in other places away from their usual environment for lesser than a successive year for relaxation, professional and other purposes. In Zimbabwe, tourism is subtle due to obvious political reasons. Many people don’t like travelling in places full of trouble and without food. The photographic tourism is the very much minimum in Zimbabwe. One major ground of failure in tourism are the land acquisition act with the invasion of white-owned farms.it was very violent and made native farmers get out of their land with n compensation. There was a murder of 8 white farmers that discouraged tourists from visiting Zimbabwe. There was a report that visitors to the Victoria Falls received threats and harassed.
The removal of numerous airlines due to disgust at human rights abuses and stating that most airlines were uneconomical was a massive blow. It made the tourists who wished to visit Zimbabwe to have fewer options. Many of them fear to fly Air Zimbabwe because they feel it’s unreliable and dangerous. The singled out airlines includes; Austrian Airlines, Swiss airline, KLM and Qantas thus drawing tourists out of the country. In 2007, the British Airways decided to withdraw. It had disgusting impacts on tourism because much of the tourists had come from Ireland and England. The Zambians airlines also pulled out in 2007 and other African services like the Ethiopian airlines also pulling out.
The confiscations of the white-owned farms led to the destruction of 83% of wildlife conservatories. There was private ownership of the land. The owners of the earth kept aside farms for wildlife prosperity but after the confiscations, it was delegated to subsistence farming. There has been looting of the farms. It led to the destruction of wildlife natural habitat. There was a reduction in the opportunities for tourists.
The democratic movement change in 1999 formed a significant opponent to the ZANU pf ruling party.it was founded and criticized their political and economic decisions that ruined Zimbabwe later. ZANU feared losing the power and provoked people leading to violence and abuse of human rights. There was murdering of approximately 30 members of MDC in 2000. All this lowered the reputation of Zimbabwe. It was insecure and lacked democracy.
Tourism is a paramount revenue generator in an economy. A country that has little turned up in the tourism industry cannot experience much economic growth. Instead, the economy deteriorates. Tourism flavors in countries that have good security and enough food. The Zimbabwe government must provide adequate safety and stop political incitement. It will help create tourist's confidence and thus attract them generating much revenue. The ZANU and MDC parties should unite and stop unhealthy completion that leads to loss of trust in the government
