Self Justification is the result of one’s own belief
A self justification happens when the mind starts excusing with excessive reasons of one’s own actions, words or deeds when others do not accept the wrong in it. It primarily is the result of one’s own belief with conviction that the self is always right and correct. The brain which works hard to make us think we are always right prompts us to justify. At no point, the self willfully accepts the wrong to repent. It blames the circumstance, situation or other’s influences on their justifications. In human behavioral patterns, the psychologists justifies it by saying, in certain state of brain it refuses to feel guilty of mistake as it finds comfort in justifications.
When there is turmoil in the mind, dissonance, a state of tension which happens, prompts the self who is inconsistent in its attitudes, belief, and opinion to dominate and justify even the real wrong. The human mind is found to be more complex than the brain. Sometime the mind is prepared to justify unethical beliefs, and wrong decisions. Sometimes the ego in self justifies its action by saying ‘in that situation it was right’, when a self is asked to admit hurtful acts. A self, who is respected for consistent thoughts, performs an action and when it deviates from ethical approaches, the mind rushes to self justify, protecting the conserved image it has created. This could be termed as cognitive dissonance between the mind and the brain. Self justification may also be due to the mind wanting to mitigate itself from the wrong. Rather than admitting the wrong gracefully, the self avoids to accept the responsibility. There is no single theory which can describe totally the self justification in human behavior as it is based on multiple situations.
