The 12 lines of the hymn are mainly written to praise and worship the Agni deity. The writer of the hymn seems to exhort Agni, a Hindu deity. Agni is one the most respected and important Vedic gods, and is known as the god of fire among the Hindu community. He is the one who accept the sacrifices once they are offered and convey them to other deities. He acts as a messager, and is young and immortal in order to enable him to perform his duties. In the hymn, the writer claims that Agni set them free when they settled in that place. He is referred to as the wise priest who offer sacrifices to God on their behalf. The Agni is exalted for offering religious offerings as thanks or worship to God.
The first two lines of the hymn depicts the deity in a family set up, where there is a young man, young woman and children. The boy who was tightly held by his mother could represent the young god since he is praised in many cases. This shows that the god act as the householder, bringing together the father, mother and the children. He is said to have been born by the chief queen, he has golden teeth, pure color and with extra powers. There is also the context of herding field where the young boy was brought up. The boy was very powerful that the other people there could take away his cow.
The praises that the author bestows on this god just confirm his popularity given that he is second to Indra in Vedic hierarchy. Among the hindu community, agni is reputed not only for conveying ablations to gods, but also for bringing those gods to sacrifices as well. The author of the hymn aim to praise this god as it was common with Rgveda hymns. The god is praised for teaching Agni for the things he has been able to teach the author.
