“The Lottery” begins on what one can consider as the perfect scene within the bright little village, full of blooming flowers as well as the folks sitting in the local square. Initially, it may seem to the readers that “The Lottery” is mainly a happy story about the lottery winner. However, as the story goes, it is possible to encounter a pile of stones that polite and a bit restrained adult men would like to stay away from. This is the first clue that stains the negative colouring of the plot. All the residents of this small town are milling about until the lottery begins. The lottery is regarded as a community play, just like the club event. Mr. Summers decides to run the lottery. He comes with an old black box. The lottery occurs as a tradition since the time immemorial. Mr. Summers starts mixing the slips of paper in an old even though not the original box. At first, Mr. Summers and Mr. Graves check the list of all the residents in this village. Tessie Hutchinson emerges to be quite worried about her arrival not in due time. Mrs. Summers insists that Watson draws a slip of paper instead of Dunbar, since he is absent. Mr. Summers stops calling names, and the villagers open the papers. Tessie complaints that the lottery is not fair. Mr. Grave gives five papers to Hutchinsons. Mr. Summers starts calling the names; the family members see that Tessie has marked the black dot on her paper. Consequently, people start running towards Tessie with the stones; the villagers throw the stones at her.
