In the exploration stage, I think the attending behavior is very crucial in the determination of whether the client will speak freely or will end up withholding important information. The attending behavior should be conducted in a way that will encourage the client to open up (Todd & Bohart, 2006). The therapist should provide an attitude that shows the client that he is very interested in hearing everything the client has to say. The therapist should also show the client that he is listening.
