Abstract
Most often affecting the elderly, dementia causes complete inability to perform routine daily activities due to impairment of memory, thinking and social abilities. Caring for dementia patients can be very challenging given their actions, reactions and activities have the potential to inflict pain, injury, or harm to themselves or to those around them. The use of restraints as a means to control dementia patient actions is a routine practice in healthcare.
