Dracula 1931

First of all, Dracula violates Working Principles, as the viewer is attracted by the antagonist, by his charm and manners. Especially women. Secondly, Dracula describes us the example of forbidden love between Renfield and Mina, which violates the Plot material section. Plot material is also violated by Dracula’s showing us that we all will pay for our sins. However, his live is long and looks very seductive, his crimes do not look amoral. Renfield has some deep feelings to beautiful Mina, which are described in his attempts so send her away from Dracula. Dracula can be seen like a representative of God’s opponent – he takes lives and offers immortality. That is against General Principles. Renfiled’s monologue about flies and spiders was criticized many times, as Details of plot, episode and treatment forbid this scene.

Which types of camera or lightening techniques were used to create a sense of suspense?

The underlighting of Dracula’s eyes emphasizes his hypnotic power, while blurring faces of victims shows their weakness. Dracula is also shown taller than other people.

What do you think about the ending of the film?

I think that the ending is quite positive. Dracula is punished, Mina is human again and can merry her beloved Harker, Van Helsing can be proud of himself, as he saved innocent soul.

Were there moral principles violated? If so, what type? Explain.

 Describe the relationship between Dracula and Renfield.
Dracula sees Renfield only as his tool. He easily gets rid of Renfild when it is needed. Instead Renfild seeks out the opportunity to serve his master to be rewarded.

Frankenstein 1931

Similar to Dracula, Frankenstein violates the Particular Applications, the scene with killing the little girl was often criticized and censored. Burning the mill can be a representative of what is forbidden in this section. Victor Moritz’ love to Elizabeth violates the code too. Also we feel sympathy for The Monster, which is a violation a General principles. I cannot but mention Victor’s violation of general principles – he created life and felt himself like a God. Speaking about Working principles, The Monster do not seems to be obvious evil, as it should look like. Viewers realize the miserable destiny of the creature and do not judge it. In some way

Do you think that "The Monster" meant to kill the little girl?
It seems to me that the Monster did not want to kill the little girl. As he was created, he could not see the barrier between good and evil.

As for me, Victor Frankenstein raised the question, that is actual for today – do we have right to create live? Everyone has to answer this question personally, as each has his own morality.
Describe the relationship between Dr. Frankenstein and "The Monster".
Viktor created his monster while chasing the fame. He did not think about consequences of his pride. Therefore Frankenstein easely abandons his creation.
As for the Monster, he is interested in the outside world, but he was rejected by his creator.
