Healthcare facilities have over time attempted to change in accordance with the ever increasing turbulent nursing environment that exposes individuals to myriad challenges. Consequently, healthcare providers should focus on ensuring that there is efficiency, satisfaction the patients while attaining the desired financial results. This paper will focus on Riverside Family Care Associates whose aim is to provide high-quality healthcare to patients.
Riverside Family Care Associates, Inc. is a private general practitioner group practice whose mission statement is to provide highest quality healthcare services to its patients and their respective families in a considerate and caring environment. The Riverside Family Care Associates commits to providing these services in cost-effective way so as to accommodate a wide range of people, irrespective of their income. It continues to advance the client satisfaction and better patient care. The group is also devoted to serving all patients who are in need of healthcare. Its working environment is characterized by caring physician, patient friendly equipments, cost-effective services, and healthy atmosphere. This paper draws the assumptions in this mission statement and gives a proposed new statement that would be best for Riverside Family Care Associates, Inc.

Assumptions made in the Mission Statement

I acknowledge this group mission statement on the fact that it has, to some extent, stated the core duty and what it represents. Its duty is to provide healthcare, and it is committed to accomplishing this duty by providing high-quality services in a caring environment. However, this mission statement has ignored many facts. The Riverside Family Care assumes that it can serve all patients with needs. The assumption is unrealistic since patients may require attention to the service that the group does not provide. Another assumption made by the group in this mission statement is that they provide the highest quality services. It is an assumption since the parameters for qualifying its services as highest are not included in this statement. It also assumes that it provides services to its patients and their families in a caring environment. It may be wrong since it is not mandatory that their family members accompany the patients, it can even be a passerby. In this case a passerby is assumed to be a family member to the patient; this is incorrect. The last assumption made in this statement is the provision of services in a cost-effective way. What the group deems to be cheap may be very expensive to the patients.

Proposed Mission Statement

Having examined the current mission statement of this group and stating the assumptions made in it, I suggest that this statement should read: ‘To provide quality healthcare services that promote the health and safety of patients at affordable costs’. The statement is very clear and precise. It does not promise highest but quality services. The statement does not include the aspect of the family; this means that it values anyone in charge of the patient. It also does not talk of its working environment, though necessary, since it is useless to state what patients will judge. Another distinguishing feature of this new mission statement is that it does not give service to all patients but patients. It means that if a patient is suffering from something that the health group cannot handle, referral can be provided without hesitation. I, therefore, recommend that the proposed new mission statement be adopted since it outweighs the current one. Apart from being realistic, it is clear and precise hence significant in accordance with the professional ethics for healthcare.
