The primary aim of this book is to provide guidelines to students writing essays. It offers very simple and elaborated steps that all students, irrespective of their level of education, can understand. It focuses mainly on academic essays and genres related to real happening in the world. It also highlights the process of referencing for a variety of genres and subjects. Ruszkiewicz focuses on the following types of genres: narratives, rhetorical among others. These genres are useful to students especially when writing an essay, because they help them think critically. Information that students need to write a good composition is found in this book. The latest edition of this book guides students in academic writing, and it also helps them chose the genres that fit them. It contributes to mold the student to be the good composer or in other words writers.
An interesting feature is that it caters for all subjects in the academic field, meaning any student can use this book as guidance to writing a good composition. Similarly, it provides very easy to follow guidelines. I was able to understand these steps and apply them in my essay quickly. I did not need to read and re-read for me to understand, once was enough. Additionally, it helped me chose the topic for my essay. The book mentions different genres that are used when writing an essay, and by reading through this I identified which was easy for me. I have not always regarded myself as a good writer; however, after reading this book I am confident that my essay is excellent. I learnt a lot of information about writing from this book.

This book talks about how to write a literature review correctly. It outlines very easy steps that all students can understand. This book mainly targets the students in the higher levels, however; it can also be helpful to those in the lower levels. The book provides many examples of literature reviews so that the student can understand even better. The book has updated types of literature reviews, additionally, it provides guidelines for referencing. The book is mainly for students at the undergraduate level, but Masters and Postgraduate students can still find it helpful. The book talks about the process of conducting research by using very simple English. It outlines all the processes that are included in a research paper. The author also differentiates the difference between qualitative and quantitative research methods. Galvan also guides the students on how to write academic papers, in general.
The interesting features in this book include the fact that students at all levels (both undergraduate and graduate) can use this book. Also, it provides all the information needed and explains everything clearly. This book has been highly recommended by many students and professors. Another unique feature is that the book has been updated to keep up with the changing trends in the literature review. Personally, since it was my first time to write a literature review I was very grateful to have found this book. I learned what should be included in the literature review and what should not. It helped formulate my thesis statement and also write my references correctly. It helped me in my essay because the author explains his points in a practical manner. Additionally, the author highlights different subject areas; therefore, I was able to choose the one I am comfortable with.
