Causes and Effects of Smoking

Smoking is regarded as a legal and widely engaged killer that takes away the lives of as much as 45000 people annually. As a matter of fact, smoking is regarded as the most horrendous habit taken up by people of all age, gender, class and creed. The widely accepted demon is known to exploit the generations in a slow yet potent manner. The annual life was taken by smoking as mentioned 45000 is greater than the life lost annually by road accidents, drunk driving and the use of illegal substances. The irony of the situation is that irrespective of the wide scale life losses annually via smoking the consumption is tobacco is still legal. The governmental and non-governmental bodies across the globe are striving to isolate the real causes of smoking and the reasons why youth is taking up to a taboo like smoking. The fact of youth indulgence in smoking cannot be highlighted alone as smoking is salient killer for all ages and genders. The accessibility of cigarette and tobacco to all the age groups make this life taking the drug an unavoidable pleasure. The following easy is crafted in conformance to isolate the real causes and effects of smoking and its life changing adverse implication. The essay will go about by first understanding the causes and then the effects of smoking.
The individual fall a pray to this taboo irrespective of widely acknowledged dangers and damages caused by smoking. Smoking remains a widely acceptable evil irrespective of the tested and proved negative consequences. The set of causes, as identified, are mentioned in the subsequent potion of the essay.
Cigarettes are available worldwide, and smoking is a shameless practice taken up by individuals of all age and gender. Availability and legal consumption of cigarette are, in fact, the greatest of all reasons why the governments are unable to diminish the usage of smoking. People belonging to all ages and genders are prone to the adversities of smoking. As asserted by the models of economics that the availability is directly proportional to the consumption of a good, furthermore the price elasticity is also a decisive factor that makes the smoking a widely accepted habit.
Smoking and tobacco consumption is legal. Although government and non-government bodies are striving to eradicate this social evil endangering the lives of individual, on the other hand, the consumption and production of tobacco is a legal act and constitutionally devised. Many countries like Ireland are anyhow working to eradicate smoking but the efforts are restricted to a small scale and the states of many countries are still apprehensive of the wide scale investment and employment created by the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry in the third world countries is regarded to a salient help as they spend huge budgets on Corporate Social Responsibility and the social welfare of the host country, but on the other hand these tobacco companies tend to overlook that the greatest welfare they can do for the host country is ceasing the manufacture of this poison that makes death accessible to the youth at every corner of the street.
Marketing and advertising are the two critical tools that endorse the product and service to the level of its need creation and validation. The role of advertising and smoking thereby goes hand in hand. The tobacco manufacturing companies play their role in cartels and employee huge budgets to advertising smoking; celebrity endorsement is one of the targeted efforts to maximize the sales of cigarettes. By depicting celebrities and famous sportsmen inhaling tobacco and excelling in their fields, gives a strong impetus to the youth to take up to this habit without evaluating its consequences. Things do not appear as what they are, but what we perceive them. Perception is a process of giving meaning to sensory stimuli. The importance of perception can be gauged by not so true a comment made by someone which says, “Perception is a reality.” People do not live on the basis of reality; they live on the basis of perception. When the thing is so important, then businesses cannot ignore it. They have to accommodate or even make the pivotal point to develop the product or service or it’s positioning.
Perception of a thing transforms itself into an opinion which is the affective part of the attitude. Through opinion in fact people show their preferences. So, it can be said that perception is, in fact, the preference. There is no one who would like his product or service to be the least preferred or not preferred. The whole line of reasoning points to the fact that a businessman cannot afford the perception of free float. He wants the product or service to have a particular positioning, and that is only possible when perceptions are directed.
Smoking as a habit is tattled as a symbol of adult adventure and sexy sophistications. Mankind has ever longed to be known for its sophistication and class. Advertising cigarette as a symbol of the class has made the stakeholders of tobacco manufacturing companies, profitable spectators’of people falling a victim of this death trap. On the major cause of people adopting smoking is a result of the adventure appeal portrayed in the commercials and advertisements. On major cause is the psychological trap offered by the specialized stuntmen performing in the commercials produced on huge budgets.
One of the major ingredients of cigarette is nicotine, and it is scientifically proved that nicotine is a highly addictive drug. For the people who try cigarette fall victims to its addiction.Scientific researchers have nominated nicotine as deadly substance due to its addictive tendencies. The attraction developed by the producers of cigarette allures mainly the young minds to try it and later nicotine serves the purpose of ensuring that they first try becomes a death trap(Brooks 647).
The irony of the situation is all the factors that are dubbed as the sources of smoking are in control and can be eliminated by simple actions. Falling prey to this life trap is an extreme action, and, therefore, due counseling of youth is the need of the hour.Taking up to tis habit under the influence is a clear offense to a balance life and society. Another cause highlighted for adapting smoking is emotional trauma faced by the individuals. As a matter of fact, individuals take a refuge in drug consumption from their daily life deprivations and traumas. The psychological setbacks of individuals are reflected in the adaptation of this habit. The most disruptive addiction that has demolished the goodwill of mankind is smoking; from the historic era tobacco has served to be an evil that has tarnished the stability and health of generations irrespective of gender, age and academic belongings. Smoking as a matter of fact is regarded as the bad habit that is the mother of all the subsequently deadly habits including drug addiction and alcohol. The key causes of smoking are peer pressure, psychological traumas and in turn poor counseling of young individuals when they reach adolescence. The malfunctioning of the social circle in properly guiding the adolescent through the phase of growth and new level development is reflected in the adaptation of tobacco consumption of youngsters (Parrott 817).
The effects of this taboo are well established. The effect of this malpractice is reflected by poor health, inappropriate moral conduct, and intolerance and limited interest in the sports activities. In addition to the moral effects smoking results in fatal health issues including lungs and breathing disorders. Smoking has been taken up by all genders and ages; youngsters, as well as adults, are influenced by the tobacco consumption in multiple ways. Smoking is wrongly associated to reduce depression and the greatest cause of heart diseases and cancer. Acidity and burning are further consequences of smoking and it has been asserted by health professional that inducing nicotine in blood results in cancer and chronically diseases
The most comprehensive effect of smoking is the high-level addiction of tobacco. The nicotine ingredient of smoking has the potency to affect the mental wellbeing of the person who consumes it. Once an individual becomes nicotine additive, the person loses the sense of reason identification. And hence they don’t feel the need of reason identification and commencement. The influence of nicotine on the mental capabilities of an individual makes the consumer of nicotine mentally incapable of absorbing the reality and staying alert. The advertisement of smoking, on the contrary, presents a picture that smoking enhances the mental alertness and offers added capabilities to assure the physical strength.
As a matter of well-stated reality, smoking is a filthy habit, and its tarnishes the personality of the consumer. It is a well-observed reality that smoking causes a sharp ting and a sense of filth from the smoker that in turn tarnishes the entire personality (Tonstad 65).
Passive smoking is more detrimental than active smoking, and the negative health effects are similar. Recently, reports indicated that 25 percent American smokers have cancers; young and adult (Brooks 647). While 3 percent of Americans are non-smokers; however, acquired the chronic disease and caused death. Another illness caused by smoking is emphysema; a peripheral vascular disease leading to heart attack. Smoking is the biggest cause of preventable deaths in different countries all over the world.
Tobacco sector offers huge profits. Annually, in the corporate world, reports show that tobacco industries gained large profits in the market. Most tobacco companies advertize their products to convince consumers to patronize their goods. The American Medical Association conducted a survey; the result shows that a single smoker spent 1,500 US dollars a year in smoking alone. Overly spend the amount in smoking is a burden financially. The CostofSmoking.com, one of the online surveys reported that, 10 percent of the smokers tend to spend 15 percent of their time on smoking. The percentage of their time spent in smoking can be explained during office breaks and spare time at work, at home or anywhere.
The cause and effect study of smoking can be funneled down to the fact that the healthcare system needs to offer a viable solution to the dwellers to eradicate this taboo. It has been for the similar reason that the performance of the health care system is heavily emphasized. The cumulative term that describes the wellbeing of the dwellers of any particular region is the effective healthcare system. A healthcare system is an effective aggregation of human resource, the associations and the relevant resources that can serve the purpose of rendering the health care service to fulfill the necessary health requirements of the individuals in a way that the heath care policies serve the maximum number of people in the given period of time and within the available resources.
The two important issues that are essential to cater while understanding the true nature of the healthcare system and medical professionals are to identify the core responsibilities along with the augmented responsibilities of the physicians and secondly to identify and demarcate the target population of the health care system.
The healthcare system operates in the complete conformity of the fact that it is utilitarian in nature. This implies to the fact that the healthcare system deals and works with the principles that advocates that policies and measures should be designed in a way that they serve and do good to the maximum number of people. But a great deal of confusion exists regarding the core and the augmented responsibilities of the medical professionals and the related human resource involved in the practical implementation of the healthcare policies. As a matter of fact there is no uniform healthcare system that has been adapted by all the countries across the world but following the basic requirements and keeping in consideration the basic statistics including the population, the death and the birth rate and the basic geographic requirements that serve as the discrepancy between the healthcare system across the world. The habituated part of the globe as a matter of fact is divided into the developed, undeveloped and developing nations and so is the division of the healthcare system of the countries, but the fact needs to be established that the healthcare systems of the developed countries as well as underdeveloped and developing countries all share a common point that the health care systems were evolved by the mutual interventions of the state along with coordinated domains of religion, welfare, and private organizations. Another important factor that has contributed to the development of this system is the trends that has rooted the corporate world in the twenty-first century, the corporate social responsibility, has now been regarded as the source of finance enhancement for the healthcare systems.
But yet the research mainly encompasses the dealings and proceedings pertaining to the responsibilities of the doctors and the health professionals in the health care settings. The numbers of people that are brought to the hospitals are the patients and the causative agents that have resulted in the health care systems across the world. Before the establishment of the World Health Organization, there were no exact and absolutes standards and goals of evaluating and standardizing the healthcare systems. But with the invasion of the World Health Organization the goals and objectives of the healthcare system is defined by means of five C’s namely Cost, Coverage, Consistency, Complexity and Chronic Illness.
Owing to the high costs that the smokers are bearing in order to get medical facilities the fact needs to be established that the needs of the smokers are being catered according to the charges and the pay and the nature of disease they have. Communication as a matter of fact has a wide and broad role to play in almost all the professions of daily life. But when we consider sensitive and attention demanding professions like medical professionals the importance of the communication amplifies mainly due to the fact that the medical professionals are dealing with a far more complex and sensitive unit of the human domain. The reason why the communication of the doctors and the smokers are important at the time of departure of a smoker is that once an individual leaves the hospital after recovery from a serious ailment he is often obliged rather keen to visit the doctor after the discharge from the hospital so at this point of time the responsibility of caretaking shifts from the medical staff to the smoker himself as from now on onwards he will himself take the medicines and will equally take care of his health. If the doctor and the medical staff will take the fact for granted that; the smoker is wise enough to take the responsibility; then this might worsen the condition of the smoker and can be fatal at times. So proper communication is the key to advance and succeed in all the professions and particularly the medial professional as they are the building blocks of a healthy society
Main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth and by offering proper and well-asserted healthcare facilities to the youth, including counseling to give up smoking the healthcare system can serve the purpose to enhance the youth participation.
Smoking as a matter of fact has its own causes and effects the essay has made an attempt to understand the causes leading to the effects of smoking, the irony of the situation is that irrespective of the wide scale life losses annually via smoking the consumption is tobacco is still legal. However, the smokers still engage in smoking despite some extremely negative impacts on their health. Advertisements or social media contribute to their interest to smoke regularly. At times, some non-smokers tend to change their lifestyle when constantly expose to a smoking environment or influence by their friends who have a smoking habit. One way to eliminate or simply minimize the smokers in the community is to ban smoking, or strict rules and regulations should be implemented consistently
