Sample Essay On Somewhere Over The Balcony
Somewhere over the Balcony has presented women as the pillars that hold the society. Despite the challenges they face, they are determined to ensure that life moves on as normal as it can be. In as much as women recognize the important role that the men in their lives play, they do not loose hope, especially when they do not receive the required help and support. This has been revealed through the character of Sarah Jones who decided to accept the attacks that were facing their home after her efforts to seek the intervention of her husband failed (Jones 36).
Women have also been represented as an outspoken gender who are daring enough to bring about the change they need. They live in a society where males dominate the political and any leadership position. However, realizing the abilities they have to make change, some women dare to stand and speak out whet they feel is right. Eleanor Methven plays a role of a woman who discovers her ability to speak and hence using such a talent to raise her views on behalf of the people she leads. However, the male dominance factor is revealed when the police confiscate her equipments. She appears a grieved woman who takes pleasure in speaking her mind just to release her tension.
Lastly, women have been displayed as caregivers who will do anything to ensure that their families are safe. They choose not to engage much in external environment but rather concentrate on taking care of the affairs of the house (Jones 40). The character that has been used to display such a feature is Kate. She sings to relieve herself from every stress and continues with her role. To her, children appear to be her treasure. She is protective, ensuring that they spend most of their time indoors and hence being protected from external danger.
