The following article covers the summary of the article ‘Geovisualization for Knowledge Construction and Decision Support’ composed of MacMachren et al., (2004).
Geovisualization is the set of techniques and tools which conduct the geospatial analysis of the data. It uses the interactive visualization for this purpose. The geospatial analysis is the technique used to determine the statistics for the data along with other information regarding the data. This kind of analysis is carried out on the data which is related to the geographical aspect.
The geospatial analysis is being used in any fields. The department of public health is one such area where the use of geospatial analysis is advantageous. Since this technique works on the basis of the geographical aspects, therefore, it depicts the prevalence of the disease in a particular region. Also, it can inform the risk factors which are causing the disease along with displaying the prevalence. Hence, the determination of the relation between the factors associated with the disease and the number of population affected by the disease can be estimated in a particular region. Moreover, data from one region can be compared with other regions. In the field of environmental sciences, the geospatial data analysis can give information about the availability of resources and presence of necessary resources within the region specifically. The significant benefit of geospatial data analysis is observed in the crisis management. The crisis can such as storm events or vehicle accidents, etc. are the emergent situation which needs to be solved out quickly. However, the tools like keyboard, mouse, etc. in another statistical software distracts the users in such emergent situation. Therefore, in such conditions, the large screen and tools of geospatial analysis can help in the crisis management effectively.
