Introduction to & Explanation of the Prototype Invention

The above diagram shows design of a simple egg shelf made from plastic bottle. Plastic bottle has been selected as the best material for making egg shelf. One of the reasons for selecting big plastic bottle is that they can be easily accessed at almost every home, especially after the liquid inside has been used. Plastic bottles can be obtained after having purchased drinking water, juices and other drinks. Instead of disposing off all plastic bottles, one should cut it into two equal halves as shown in the sketch. The overall shape of the egg shelf will be half of the cylinder’s curved side. The half section has been incorporated in the design to facilitate easy rolling, storage and access of eggs in the kitchen (Suresh 296). The designed egg shelf will serve many purposes. One of the functions of the egg shelf will be for storing eggs in the kitchen for easy access. The egg shelf will also be used to promote easy arrangement of eggs in the kitchen.

Rationale for this Prototype Invention

Present statistics reveal that almost every household has uses plastic bottles. The plastic bottles can be easily modified into egg shelf, for keeping eggs instead of buying egg trays. For the families that have egg trays, almost all of them bought theirs from the shop while others received it as a gift from either friends or family members. For the families without an egg shelf, the process of putting eggs at an accessible place has been a challenge. A lot of time is often wasted as one tries to move from the cooking position to the place where eggs have been kept. The effect of having to move around has made many families to limit their use of eggs (Lee). After studying many of the affected households, the results revealed almost every family has access to plastic bottles. The available plastic bottles if reshaped and size appropriately, can produce simple but quality egg shelf.

The Adaptive Value of the Prototype Invention

Adaptation of the prototype will help in reducing time wasted by chefs when accessing eggs in the kitchen. Many families will be capable of owning a simple and easily accessible egg shelf without having to spend their cash to purchase one. The invention provides one of the best alternatives of putting waste plastic bottle back into use. The idea provides a simple way of recycling plastic bottles into more useful products (Maggitti 98). The egg shelves will perform different functions in the kitchen. It will be used for keeping eggs as well as providing easy access of the eggs by the chef.

The Novelty/Originality of the Prototype Invention

The idea to come up with a simple egg shelf made from plastic bottles resulted from the need to acquire cheap and affordable equipment of keeping eggs in the kitchen, to most households. Although the product and technology involved is simple, the product will provide an affordable way of acquiring quality egg shelf among most of the households. Looking at most of the egg strays being sold in the shops, all of them have been placed somewhere safe. The need for safety is to protect the eggs from being broken either falling objects or by people in the kitchen. There is no case of an egg shelf made from plastic bottles being sold to the people. The invention is therefore original and worth patenting.

Reflections on the Creative Process involved in the creation of the Prototype Invention

Although the invention seems simple, the design process required a lot of creativity. The invention process entailed critical thinking of proper splitting a plastic bottle into two sections carefully. Also, the process entailed proper designing of angles for securing the egg shelf safely a against kitchen wall. While splinting a plastic bottle, one needs to pay attention to the desired shape so as to attain the right size of the egg shelf (Maggitti 98). The inclusion of angles with a curved side forms part of creativeness of the invention. The invention is easy to make, install and use. By using an angle, one is able to secure to secure the egg shelf in the desired height and side of the kitchen wall. This will promote the use of space in the kitchen, as equipment will be arranged in a presentable manner.

The Impact of Prototype Invention on the Environment

Creation of the egg shelf from plastic bottle will have positive impacts on the environment. Since most of the waste plastic bottles end up being disposed careless or burnt, the invention will reduce the quantity of plastic bottles being burnt. The process of reducing disposal of plastic bottles, the environment will be spared of air pollution resulting from smoke produced during burning process (Owain). The amount of carbon gases emitted when plastics are burnt will reduce thereby reducing the emission of greenhouse gases thus lowering the chances of global warming.

Reflections on Learning related to "Creativity" from this Exercise.

Since the invention is a noble idea that can be done by almost everyone, civic educations will be conducted to educate the people. Many families should be informed about the procedure of making simple but quality egg shelf from used big plastic bottles. The knowledge should be passed to many people so as to reduce time wastage in the kitchen
