Florida had a problem with the electronic voting machines that necessitated Gore seeking a formal legal hand recounting of the votes. There was also a very strict deadline on when the results must be announced. Therefore, with all the factors considered and the close race whereby a clear winner had not been determined, there was a need to determine beyond any reasonable doubt who won in Florida. The court ruled in favor of G. W. Bush. The court judges cited that the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the US had a clear process of recounting of the votes in the event of disputes. The court asserted the process violated the equal protection clause. In the process of the recounting of the votes, there were many oversights. The equal rights protection clauses require that he federal government must respects, uphold, and maintain all the legal rights of the citizens. The state governments have no right or freedom to infringe on the liberties and civil right of the citizens since that is against the constitution.
