Introduction
One of the duties of a knight is to defend the king’s honor at all costs and by any means possible. In “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’, Sir Gawain was an ideal knight as he was ready to spring into action when the King’s honor was questioned or put into jeopardy. This aspect is clearly brought out in Victoria’s Weiss essay, “Gawain’s First Failure”.
