Introduction

With the massive improvement of the internet and the proliferation of the different technological breakthroughs that makes information and communication more accessible for public consumption, the issue on censorship has been brought to a new light. On top of these, civil society has been confronted with issues that is brought by the lack of a regulating body that would filter the materials that are readily available in the internet. The author of the book entitled Social Consequences of Internet Use: Access, Involvement and Interaction named a few problems created by the internet, like being held responsible for the production of disembodied, lonely individual (Katz & Rice, 2002, Preface , xix). In addition, the internet has also been connected to a wide range of social problems like child pornography, privacy and confidentiality issues and recently, an alarming issue on cyberbullying (Tyler, 2002, p. 202-203). Nevertheless, despite the impact of the internet to the basic ethical and moral structure of society there has been little attention given to address the issue. Many social analysts thinks that the best way to manage the growing problem caused by the internet is to impose censorship on this widely used technologically-based platform. This paper, however, begs to differ. This paper believes that the proposal to impose censorhip in the internet is not feasible. Hence, it is the goal of this paper to offer a substantial argument as to why censorship will not offer a solution, but rather it will only generate more issues that what is already presented.
Many countries has offered to restrict the people’s access to the internet. Among these countries include Hong Kong, Cuba and even Australia . However, while there are many other ocountries who tried to limit the people’s access to the internet the consequences has not been controlled. Instead many reports outrage and social unrest because many people believe that by imposing censordhip, the government is trying to curtail their freedom of expression.
