Decision-Making Process Essay

Decision is the process of making up the mind for something. It can also be considered as the position, judgment or opinion reached by someone after consideration of something or some processes. According to Bateman and Snell, ideal decision making process consists of six important steps. These steps include (1) the identification of the problem, (2) development of alternative solutions, (3) evaluation of those alternative, (4) making choices from those alternative solutions, (5) implementation of the decision, and (6) final evaluation of the decision. Usually, big companies consider questions related to these steps, and reach the final decision after proper thinking (Bateman & Snell, 2009).
In my life, I made a decision for purchasing a car and that process of decision making was very much similar to the above mentioned stages of decision making. As the first step shows the recognition of the problem and its solution; so the problem was a difficulty in transportation from one place to another especially from one city to another. I thought that I have to work on this problem and the solution of this problem can help in a better and facilitated future. At that stage, I found that my decision making process started, and I have to find the solution, and reach the decision.
I thought that this problem can be solved with the help of some alternative solutions as, for example, the use of governmental or private transport services to move from one place to another. This solution can be considered as the “ready-made solution”. On the other hand, there was an alternative solution of purchasing my own car for easy and facilitated movement from one city to another. I had another idea of purchasing a motor bike, but that was not a good idea as motor bikes are unable to take people from one city to another. Moreover, families can’t easily be moved on a motor bike.
After evaluating different perspectives of my alternative solutions, I thought purchasing a car is more feasible for me. My own car would be an acceptable solution, although not the best solution, but it could help me in achieving the best possible transportation, and reaching my destinations and goals. So, I implemented the decision of purchasing my own car that is the fifth step in the decision-making process. Even after making the choice and implementing the decision, there is a last stage of evaluation of decision. I found that my decision came with positive results. Those steps were very similar to my own decision making process, and I believe that without following those steps, I would not be able to reach a better decision.
