The number of United States academic degrees attest an interest in education by American ethnic groups. Some of the institutions provide levels under the umbrella of cultural minority or ethnic studies. Ethnic studies literature covers individual and multiple ethnic groups.
The play by Israel Zangwill entitled Melting Pot is at the epicenter of a controversial issue of whether Americans shaped the ethnic groups or the other way round. In the past, literature on ethnic groups focuses on the great person concept (Palmer, 2006). The popular group reinforces its self-perception and the culture of their native country. The ethnic literature studies of African Americans appear in 1940s. A civil rights movement began in the late 1960s as well as the development of digital technology to facilitate a compilation of the bibliography. The African-Americans have experienced an interest in multiculturalism and other minority groups in America. The core literature that covers multiple groups lead to larger libraries as the first Harvard Encyclopedia of American groups emerges to set the standard. Other literal work includes Gale Encyclopedia of Multicultural America, Building of a Nation, and American Immigrant Cultures. The books highlight the main cultural features, acculturation, issues, and problems of the minority groups. The Ethnic families in America focuses on multiculturalism while providing a background for one to understand the ethnic minorities. The well-researched literature on African Americans highlights their social, political, biographical, and historical issues. American treaties and politics shape the Native American History as well as other recent publications. The intention of building strong ethnic studies is an attempt to balance reference sources and circulate titles of scholarly and non-scholarly of the ethnic groups. Every year the collections of each minority group continue to enlarge as well as the research-based centers. That move establishes a lot of information for one to comprehend the complexities and diversity of each group.
