It has always been a norm with training animals that positive reinforcement methods will always more productive than negative training methods. Many dog owners and trainers go for the hard way to get their dogs to behave or learn new tricks. However, this approach is not only negative in its implementation, it also has a negative impact on the behavior of dogs and using coach and pinch collars to train them is only the worst one can do to the animal. Over the years, trainers have emphasized developing a friendlier human to dog relationship. Many people are moving towards training their dogs in science-based training methods.
Science-based training methods are the modern and more effective approach in training dogs that does not involve negative and harsh methods and steps. The scientific method involves applying the term Behavior Analysis on dogs. The basic technique is to understand the behavior of the dog and treating it accordingly. In aversive training, a dog will respond to negative treatment because it wants to avoid something. Understanding that dogs need to have their behavior shaped in accordance with something they would willingly do, a trainer would resort to positive methods. The trainer would prefer to expose the dog to that phenomenon he likes most, will try to recognize what the dog repels against, and would try to eradicate it. It is all a matter of behavior observance and skillful recognition of it. This is the very skill that trains dogs that become search and rescue dogs, bomb-sniffing dogs, seizure alert dogs, mine sniffing dogs, etc. Working through a systematic understanding of behavior always leads to better performance and reliability as the result of the training.
