Aviation industry is one of the best industries for professional and personal growth. Becoming a pilot is one of the best jobs that desired by most people. This is because of the high salaries that pilots are paid when they are recruited by various airlines around the world. I have always desired to become a pilot throughout my career as a student. Working as a pilot entails a number of advantages. Pilots usually work for limited number of day in a month. Unlike other professions, pilots have many hours of breaks (Jowell, 2003). They do not take their jobs home since the work they do ends when they disembark from the plane. They are entitled to reduced car and hotel rates as well as reduced travel or free travel. These benefits are companied by time off. The retirement and benefit packages for pilots are usually higher than that of other professionals. This makes pilots to enjoy their work and commit their efforts in observing best practices.

Financial gains

Pilots are paid high salaries. However, the range of salaries differs depending on a number of factors. These factors include amount of flight hours, and the level of competency. Salaries for the first year pilots have an annual range between $25000 and $50000. This salary increases as a pilot continues to work for the airline. Pilots with experience of more than ten years earn annual salaries up to $300000 (Broekel & Boschma, 2012).
The number of days that a pilot works depends on the company and the experience of the pilot wit the company. In major airlines, pilots can work for 14 days each month. During this period, they are not living with their families. Pilots are required by airlines to undergo regular tests such as checkride. The implication of these tests is that pilots must undergo studies to acquaint themselves with merging skills and competencies due to rapid revolution in inventions. In addition, pilots are required to observe emerging techniques and procedures and have updated charts (Jowell, 2003). Such requirements are meant to keep an efficient and dedicated pool of pilots that can fly people and goods to various destinations. I would like to go through these tests since I have a demonstrated ability to perform well and emerge top of my class. In this regard, I believe will give me an opportunity to read wide and expand my horizons thereby increasing my professional growth.

Professionalism

My admiration and passion for being a pilot is driven by the high cost of becoming one. I believe that the higher the cost, the greater the gains. The eight-year commitment that requires pilots to go through military is an example of the high costs involved. This compounded by a mandatory requirement that pilots should have a bachelor’s degree. The school of aviation takes aviation students through rigorous training to ensure that pilots have proper physical conditions. For commercial pilots, there is a compulsory test that they should sit and pass each year. Tests on drugs and alcohol are carried out regularly to ensure that pilots are in proper psychological condition before they carry out their duties (Broekel & Boschma, 2012). There is regular scrutiny of a pilot’s records. In essence, this profession helps to bring up individuals that are sharp, skilful and are psychologically upright. The intention is to reduce the chances of pilots causing aircraft accidents. I believe that working in such an environment will not be inspiring but also help in inculcating discipline and commitment in my work. This industry observes strict rules for pilots because of the huge responsibility ensuring safety of people while they are in space. Thus, fine details matter when it comes to employing pilots in the industry. A pilot must know how to fly a plane. This responsibility requires kills that pilots are expected to have. Pilots that fly commercial jets are said to have high technical skills and have spent many years improving on the skills.
Understanding the theory of flight is paramount for all pilots. This requires deeper knowledge in Physics. Application of the various concepts of Physics helps pilots to understand the dynamics involved in flying planes. Various principles, laws, and concepts needed in the aviation industry include motion, pressure, fluid flow, mass and inertia (Delfmann, 2005). I believe that my passion for Physics is an impetus towards understanding the concepts regarding the theory of flight. Knowledge of meteorology help pilots to interprets the weather and makes judgments regarding the safety of the flight during bad weather conditions. Despite the gains, there is the other side of aviation industry. Finding employment in major airlines is a major challenge that most candidates face while making applications to be employed as pilots. This is the point of divergence between aviation and other professions. I believe that given a chance to train as a pilot, I will utilize my skills in expanding my horizons in matters of aviation. In particular, I would like to employ my skills and apply the best techniques and procedures that would see me become the best pilot in the industry.
