Moving to America was the best thing that ever happened to her. At least she was going to share in the American dream and make the best out of her life. And it is when she joined school after arrival that she met the man of her life, her handsome husband. Together, they were blessed with three children; her twin sons and a younger daughter. But pregnancy was not the easiest thing. She had to discontinue her studies and take care of her twins when they were born. Taking care of twins can be challenging but as a stay at home mother she had to for the sake of her children. That was the best thing that ever happened to her. Four years later they were blessed with a daughter. Together with her husband they thought that was enough and had to concentrate on taking care of their young family.
Her dream was to become a doctor or a nurse so that she could save lives in the ER or even the infant or adult units. She had come from a developing nation, and she understood very well what it meant to lack proper medical care. Most African countries lack a proper healthcare system (Njoh 148), and she wanted to make sure she had a good education to enable her become a medical professional. That way she was sure of earning a good salary that could enable her take proper care of her family. She wanted her children to have a good life and achieve their dreams. That was only possible if she could have afforded to provide for them. Besides she wanted to empower herself so as not to be too dependent on her husband even though he was not complaining. She knew that her children’s education was very important, and part of the reason she wanted to have a nice stable job was so that she could afford saving up a little for their university education. They had to lead a better lifestyle than she did. It all had to start with a good education.
She dreamt of being successful in her life. She wanted to someday own a big five bedroom house that had three bathrooms and an expansive backyard for her children to play. All her children could have their bedroom to themselves and that she believed could make them happy. The extra bedroom was to be used by her mother because she wanted to bring her to the United States. She had retired in the year 2013 and because her father had died a long time ago; she felt her aging mother was becoming lonely because her elder brothers had gotten married, and each had a family and were committed. She wanted a bright future not only for her children but also for herself, and she knew that it was never too late to achieve that. She wanted all her children to be proud of her when they grew up and that one day she could tell them together with her grandchildren about her personal life journey.
