The changes in the legislature have been calling for over a 30 years by many different judges. Wallace B. Jefferson is not an exception. He thinks that the way how the judges are elected and how they come to the bench in Texas. He believed that the system that is responsible for this is broken and must be changed by all means. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
First of all, he claims that the very process of judge remaining on his position nowadays is only with the help of money. To solve this problem, Jefferson holds up as a model of his own campaigns and the way how he communicates with voters. How he tries to give them as much useful information about what, how and when he has been working.
Second of all, he states that people do not know almost anything about what judged do and even how many courts are in Texas. Furthermore, when there is election carried out, potential voter have no idea who they voting for. People do not have information about the judges. People have no idea about the skills and abilities of these judges, so one can see that people more and more vote based upon partisan affiliation. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
He also states that the straight-ticket vote system is not very effective and also should be removed or changed. In a nutshell, judges are not evaluated and chosen by their skills, experiences but they are judged by the party they belong to. And even if it is not chosen by the party you belong, Jefferson believes that a name that sounds ethnically could be reasoned argument to vote for that person. Even if it is not the case of your party or the spelling of your surname or whatsoever, it is the amount of cash you can spend on your campaign.
The only way how to solve this problem is first of all: people should have more information about the judges. Their skills, abilities, backgrounds must be evaluated, and not only major judges should be under the society’s examination, but everyone that is in ballot. Second of all the very process of straight-ticket voting must be reconsidered.
The system, where judges are chosen to do their duty not for their talents as judges but due to the fact that they are from the same party as the majority in the society, is the broken system according to Wallace B. Jefferson. It is a rule of law governed by the majority at the expense of the minority.
