Introduction

Computer systems is an important aspect of computer systems in an organization. Computer operating systems forms a significant part of computer systems in an organization. It calls for the need to ensure that there is updates for the computer operating systems and that the systems will follow the stipulated aspects of the computer process. With the development and integration of new features on Windows operating systems, organizations keep on upgrading to the new operating systems. When upgrading an operating system, care has to be put in place to ensure that all the user requirements will be met. The company has to deploy Windows Server 2012 so that they are able to get the features that will enable them perform their daily operations with the current trends that are found in the world today. This paper will focus on an upgrade to Windows server 2012 for Worldwide Advertising, Inc. The paper will entail giving the required details on the deployment of Windows 2012 Server from the current operating system so that there is an upgrade and a development of a better environment.

Additional capabilities that have been integrated to Windows Server 2012

Windows 2012 Server has been added with features that made the computing experience a nice experience. The new features that have been added have been useful for many organizations because of the advanced features that will be beneficial to the IT infrastructures that have been installed. One feature that WAI will benefit from the upgrade is the new feature of Server Manager. From time to time, there will be server groups that will be formed in the network. The servers groups will have to be managed when handling the different groups in the network. Windows Server 2012 will have the enhanced features that will enable the users to manage the server groups that are integrated in the network. With increased networks in a company, there will be the need to have additional servers and their hosts. The additional servers will be grouped into groups which will have to be managed. The company will take advantage of the server group management so that they are able to manage the different server groups. The Server Group manager will be able to integrate the system with the management of the different groups that will be used in the network.
Another feature that will be beneficial to WAI is the availability of different editions. There is command-line version and the GUI version. These two versions are effective and will ensure that there is ease-of-use for the system administrators. While configuring the system, it will be possible to have better process and procedures of configuring the system. These are the issues that need to be put in place and have a better way in which the management will be achieved.
There is also a feature that allows the organization to have multiple images of servers without having to buy the multiple images. This is the feature of Hyper-V. With this feature, WAI will be able to replicate the services of one server in a different location without having to install the server in that location. It is beneficial in terms of cost and in terms of ease-of-use of the services that are in place. Replicating services of a server will enable the owner of the server to have disaster recovery management. If the services of a site fails, the remote processes will be run on the system. The remote locations will have the services of the server and will not necessarily be interrupted.
Another characteristic that will be beneficial to WAI when they upgrade to Windows Server 2012 is that of DirectAccess. DirectAccess is a feature that will be useful when getting access to the system of a remote location. It enables the systems in the sites to connect to one another. By being able to connect directly, the servers in the two locations will have a secure means of sharing the data that they process without compromising the security of the servers. The servers will be able to connect and maintain the security that is needed in the entire process.

Server editions that will be deployed

With the development of many server editions for the Windows Server 2012, there are many server editions that have been developed. The best edition to install will depend on the requirements of WAI. There is an assessment of the hardware of the organization and if there will be new additions that will be added, then they will be added so that there is integration of the services that are available on the company. The minimum features that will be required will be the hardware requirements in terms of memory and the storage that will have to be availed in the entire process. WAI will have to have server hardware that have a processor of at least i3 Intel, 2.6GHz processor. The RAM of the servers will have a minimum capacity of 3GB.
There will be the installation of a server core on all the servers. It will help to have minimal installation requirement. When there are minimal resources, it will help to have the minimal resources running and having some services running.
In terms of the editions of the servers, the Standard edition of the Windows Server 2012 will be appropriate for the described scenario. The version will be easy to manage and configure. There are many features that have been integrated and will enable the users to have diagnosis when they face issues with the edition. The standard edition has virtualization that is needed in the current setting and in the current version of the organization. With the requirements that are needed in the organization, the Standard Edition will have features that will mostly be used and will not be complicated for the users. Because of the number of users that will make use of the servers, the analysis will need a server edition that will not have unnecessarily high number of users. Standard edition, will serve the 25 users that are needed for the company with ease and efficiency that is required.

How the system will be

Server role will have to be distributed. It is a trend that is shifting from the past where server roles were integrated on one server. It is now possible to have server roles distributed in different servers. Virtualization has enhanced the roles of the servers, so that the servers will have different roles. Current server versions have had the integration of Virtual Server systems so that it is possible to have combination of server roles. Every role can be undertaken in different locations and at different times without having to have one server undertaken and done on one server. With the capabilities to combine server roles in one server, it is now possible to have many server roles on one server. It is one of the processes that has been seen to enable people to have reduction in the overhead. There is a need to have reduction in the overhead so that the server roles can be combined. The number of resources that will be used in the process will be reduced so that there will be better management of the entire resources. One alternative that is available for the case is that the backup server can be combined with the DC. The backup server is an easy target in the combination because they are not used while all the other processes are running.
There will be the description of deploying the servers. The servers will be deployed in an automatic process where. Automatic deploying will eliminate problems that are found while undertaking configuration. It will also make it easier to integrate with the future systems if the deployment option will be automatic. The automatic process will save some of the processes.

Active directory

The number of active directory that will be found on the network is Domain Name, PDC, RIC, and Scheme. One recommendation that will be made for this installation is to use the automatic process so that processes will be saved. The roles will be switched automatically. The directories will have to be protected so that they will not be able to view.

DNS and DHCP

It is important to define the features that will be required for the servers. For WAI, the DHCP will have a lease time of 8 days. The range on which the address will be picked will depend on the amount that has been stipulated in the entre process. The address range of the servers will rather be left to be on the default values than start a new range. The users will have their IP addresses and have a means of getting to the domain is to have a range of the address that will be used for the entire process.

Application services

There will also be application services which will have to be defined in the infrastructure and in the upgrade. The application services that will be made available are the normal applicators that are used in an office. There will also be the Group Policy which will have to be protected in the working of the network. The Group Policy will have the principles and the procedures that have to be followed as a group.

Sharing of the file and the printer

The printer will have to be shared in the usage process. This will be achieved by ensuring that the domain has been enabled for sharing. The users in the system should have the features so sharing. Important software will be shared without worrying of the customer data so that they will be harvested. The files to be shared will have to be stored in a common directory and will ensure that there is secure means of sharing. With additional features that have been stated in the beginning of the document, DirectAccess will have to be used to have the sharing of data in locations which are considered to be far from one another.
