Leadership is one of the major aspects of every organization. Good leaders can bring the company to the next stage of development and can make irreplaceable positive changes for the future of an organization. Still, becoming a great leader in a modern fast pacing society is a challenging work to perform and it requires constant self-development, improvement, and control.
Contemporary management implies leaders who contribute their highest enthusiasm and loyalty to the work of the company and to the building of an effective productive team. One of the approaches that modern leaders can implement in their work life is supporting innovation at all the organizational levels. Innovative leadership is spreading fast among different organizations in a modern world. Customers’ needs are constantly changing and it is a challenge for a business to keep the track of those needs that demand higher implementation of various technologies. Thus, using innovative leaderships approach can recognize ideas of employees and help them to develop those ideas into wider activities, which, in turn, will bring value and benefits to the organization and to customers.
Furthermore, a leader should try to create a positive and friendly atmosphere in an organization. Constant communication with employees, listening to their concerns and suggestions, providing positive comments, establishing common goals, and facilitating teamwork are the essential techniques that every effective leader should implement in his activities. Warm atmosphere in a working place helps workers to have higher commitment to the job and loyalty to the company levels. Moreover, when a leader establishes certain relationships with employees, such as respectful, trustful and open, it provides a sense of belonging for an employee and helps to develop self-actualization needs that are in the top of the Maslow’s human needs pyramid. What is more, by establishing strong relationships with the working team, a leader learns a lot and can get a constructive feedback about his practices, which will give the insight on what should be eliminated, what can be improved, and what can be facilitated. Thus, a good leader is the one who has strong relationships with employees and continuously facilitates these relationships to the good of both the workers and the company.
Another approach that leaders can use in contemporary management is employees’ empowerment. As far as in a modern world more and more companies are engaged in international trade and international transactions, the number of different assignment grows. Instead of hiring new employees, leaders can give an opportunity to those who already work for the company to show their skills and knowledge and perform the tasks that will expand the area of their proficiency and will help them to feel their importance for the company’s operations.
What is more, global leaders should often use effective negotiation approaches. Potential problems and internal and external conflicts can appear in every organization. As the result, leaders have to pay careful attention to the conflict resolution techniques that are in use within a company. Using negotiation activities that include precise evaluation of alternatives, stepping oneself in other’s shoes, and coming up with the common solution together can positively contribute to the environment in a company and to its success in global arena.
A great example of a modern leader can be Richard Branson, the founder and CEO of Virgin Airways that is operating in airline industry. He is a world’s recognizable innovative leader, and he encourages innovative initiatives at all the levels of his huge company. In addition, the main aim of his leadership approach is to create a trustful community at the company, which highlights integrity, openness, communication and teamwork (Schawbel, 2014). Thus, engaging those approaches to the work of the leader will bring positive results to the company’s image in the eyes of employees, shareholders, and customers.
