The reality of globalization and subsequent unlawful migration and terrorism challenges the continuity of the American nation as an immigrant nation (LeMay 26). In essence, policymakers have had serious difficulties in isolating real problems from illusory migration challenges. Notably, the traditional approaches of neglecting and limiting immigration through unsound policies will no longer hold because the immigration challenges need comprehensive laws. The need to address the real problems of immigration is urgent and needs sound policies to ensure that immigrants are of economic benefit to the United States rather than mere propagators of terrorism and local insecurity.

The Real Problem

Admittedly, there is massive illegal immigration into the United States every year. In fact, about 10million-unregistered aliens live in America, and this number grows by approximately 700000 per year (Dudley 11). From one perspective, the presence of many immigrants in America is a strong testimony to the global attractiveness of the nation. From the other perspective, the reality of many aliens is a sign of how the United States’ borders are dangerously open.
Primarily, most of the illegal aliens enter the United States in search of jobs, a situation that significantly adds value to the nation’s economy. However, the illegal aliens, on the other hand, take away value because they significantly weaken the national security and legal environments. Concisely, the presence of millions of unregistered immigrants often poses no direct threat to security but leads to distraction of resources, distortion of the law and serves as a precipitator to criminals and a cover for terrorists. In other words, illegal immigration presents a security problem and is not necessarily a threat to the United Nations economy.in fact, immigrant families add $88000 more in tax revenues to the U.S than they consume serves in, which is a positive net fiscal impact(Dudley 17).

What Is Going On?

Every year the number of immigrants increases and so does the needs of security. Members of the Congress from both sides tremendously threw their support behind the Obama immigration policy and adopted it into law as a way to address the problems of immigration. The immigration policy focuses on improving border security creating a new temporary worker program, strengthening employer employment verification and offering amnesty to illegal aliens already in America. The implementation of these strategies is ongoing.

Solutions

The threat of having unregistered immigrant workers weakens the legal system by making flouting of the law a common behavior (LeMay 33). In response to a weak legal system, terrorists and drug traffickers take advantage and find easy entry into the United States. Agreeably, terrorism can pose high economic costs that exceed the positive economic immigration benefit. In essence, the country needs to separate the negative from the positive by creating a nationwide system for identification of all immigrants and foreign people within the United States. Usually, it is not watertight to identify visitors upon exit and entry; instead, all foreigners need urgent registration.
The challenges of illegal immigration create an urgent need for biometric registration of all guest workers in America. Currently, the nationwide biometric identification system for visitors is already in place, which is a promising move towards addressing the immigration problems. However, it is essential also to have a sister system, call it “WORKER-VISIT” system which will be central to enforcement efforts by allowing corporations and companies to conduct efficient authentication. Pertinently, the sister system will allow employers to verify whether people they are seeking to employ are registered in the program and are eligible for working in the United States. Consequently, the two systems will allow sealing any loopholes and ensuring that all foreigners are documented.

Conclusion

The reality of globalization and subsequent unlawful migration and terrorism challenges the continuity of the American nation as an immigrant nation. Illegal immigration presents a security problem and is not necessarily a threat to the United Nations economy. Every year the number of immigrants increases and so does the needs of security. Therefore, there is need to implement a nationwide biometric registration system fully and create a sister WORKER-VISIT system for documenting all visitors to eliminate chances of terrorists taking advantage.
