Abstract
This paper evaluates the size of cars used in urban areas. Most city residents drive small cars; while big cars are often driven in rural areas. The paper evaluates the factors that lead to the use of smaller cars than bigger ones in urban areas. It describes three models for the research. Every model has a factor influenced by the size of cars and two implications for each model. The paper also covers the data for use in the research and it ends with findings and results.

Introduction

In urban areas, people often drive small cars than big cars. Most of the vehicles driven in urban areas are small cars. The type of cars driven in urban areas and their engine capacities is of high concern to the society. Evaluation this scenario is essential in providing a clear insight about the topic. The research is based on a general hypothesis that small cars are commonly used in urban areas due to their sustainable economic value and their ability to offer comparatively convenient and user-friendly services than big cars.

Model One

Small cars are very convenient for urban life.
Implication A: Small cars flexible for small spaces or corners, for example, small cars can make a U-turn very easily, big cars scare about crowded spaces.

Implication B: Urban areas are crowded—have no enough room, thus small cars are very convenient for finding parking space.

Model Two
Small cars are good enough to satisfy people’s daily requirement of transportation. Implication C: There are very few chances to use big cars for carrying huge goods during urban life; people usually drive small cars for working or going to school.

Implication D: There is high density of population, thus small cars can reduce traffic rate.

Model Three
Small cars are better for keeping environment good than big cars.
Implication E: People like good environment to live, Small cars have features which are low energy consumption, low pollution and low emission.

Implication F: Smalls cars have lower pollution tax than big cars, people prefer lower tax.

Data
This research question requires data about the type of cars driven in urban areas. There are very many people living in urban areas as compared to the number of residents of rural areas. The parking slots in urban areas are relatively small and limited. In some cases, vehicles are parked very closely to accommodate more cars. Big cars can occupy more spaces hence reducing the carrying capacity for some parking places (McCarthy, 2007). This increases congestion in cities and leads to wasting people’s time in traffic congestion. Moreover, people in urban areas need faster ways of movement. Big cars often take more time to negotiate corners or maneuver through narrow roads. In places where big cars cannot pass through, the driver has to use an alternative route hence spending more time moving. In contrast, small cars often pass through even places where bigger cars cannot. For instance, there are some places where vehicles exceeding certain limits cannot go through. Such places may be in shorter driveways. Driving in bigger cars may limit the movement of people through shorter routes hence slowing down the speed of movement within the urban area.
Additionally, people living in urban areas rarely carry huge goods. Mostly, they drive to work, school, shopping, or to the leisure centers. In this context, small cars appear more convenient for this lifestyle. This is unlike in the rural areas where cars are mainly used for different purposes such as carrying food produce. These activities do not require very powerful cars. Rather, small cars can perform these functions well. Many people spend on what is necessary. If a smaller car can offer the required service, most people can go for it. Whenever a smaller car is unable to deliver according to the expectations, they then go for bigger cars. Huge amounts of goods and luggage are carried in the rural areas. There are more activities involving transportation of goods in the rural than there are in urban. Most urban residents carry huge luggage either going to or from the rural. In such cases, they drive bigger cars. Moreover, smaller cars are economically friendly(McCarthy, 2007).The cost of living in urban areas is higher than in rural areas. Therefore, urban residents use smaller cars that consume less fuel to move around. Furthermore, traffic congestion is usually experienced in urban areas; rarely in the rural areas. Vehicles consume more fuel when moving at low speed than at high speed. In the rural areas, vehicles often move faster since the roads are clear most of the time.
Moreover, small cars have smaller engines. This means that they burn less fuel as compared to bigger cars with bigger engines. The more the fuel burned, the more the exhaust gas produced. This bi-product of vehicles is not good for the environment. It contributes to environmental pollution and degradation. Its effects extend from causing cloudy atmosphere to the destruction of the ozone layer (Gillespie, 2006). This layer prevents the harmful rays of light from the sun from reaching earth. Destruction of the ozone layer presents a devastating threat to life on the planet. Therefore, concerned urban residents drive small cars that emit little disastrous exhaust gas to conserve the environment. As a measure to reduce environmental pollution, governments have introduced pollution taxes. The more the emission from a car, the higher the tax. This measure encourages people to use environmentally-friendly means of transport. In this respect, many urban residents drive smaller cars in order to pay less pollution tax (Richards, 2012).
The size of sample taken in the research forms the independent variable; while the dependent variable is the size of cars driven. The number of people covered in the survey is definite, hence, independent of other factors. On the other hand, the size of cars driven is dependent since it can vary with a different sample of population.
The data would be theoretically gathered in this research by carrying out a survey on a definite number of cars within an urban area, then finding out the number of small cars in that sample. This helps identify the proportion of small cars in the urban area hence help in drawing conclusions.

Findings and Results

Model One
The research needs to establish that a high number of urban residents drive small cars. If there are more residents driving bigger cars, this will contradict the model. Moreover, if there were more big cars in a parking than small cars would contradict the model. The model shows that smaller cars fit in parking places than bigger ones; hence, saving on the parking space.
Model Two
This research needs to establish that small cars are good enough to satisfy people’s daily requirement of transportation. If the research establishes that urban residents require bigger cars to move around towns. Also, the model could contradict if the research establish that smaller cars increase traffic congestion.
Model Three
The research needs to establish that small cars emit less exhaust gas than bigger cars. This will help in environmental conservation. If the research establishes that bigger cars were more environmentally-friendly than smaller cars, the model will contradict.
