Programs and methods

In order to support the homeless and battered in the society, the agency will run a number of programs that will ensure this disadvantaged group in the community is able to get a good shelter, food, job opportunities, support services and a sustainable path of self-sufficiency. These programs include homecare program, education help program, health care program, job assistance program, and child care and protection program. The education help program will ensure the homeless and battered people in the community have opportunities to complete their basic education (Hess 769). The agency will have a primary school section that will ensure those have never attended or started and dropped a long the way go to school to complete primary school curriculum. It will also sponsor those students who pass well in primary exams to high schools and later to collages in order to advance their education. Education program will also teach the targeted group skills related to financial education that they can use sustain themselves later in life. Health care program will focus on providing mental, physical, dental care and other forms of health care to the targeted group. Home care program will ensure the homeless have sufficient balance-diet food and shelter through erecting rooms where these services will be provided. In this program, they will also learn how to create good and safe environment for their children and how to protect them from any form of danger. Health care program will also have a sub-division of counseling that will provide guidance and counseling services to the homeless. They will be provided with mental, physical and social counseling in all matters that affect their lives negatively (Tsai et al. 694). Finally, job assistant program will prepare those who have attained age of working skills for applying jobs. These skills will include how to write a resume, searching for job opportunities and how to pass interviews. They will also learn how they can create job opportunities through entrepreneurship.

Statistics

According to recent report of state of homelessness in America released in 2014, the number of homeless people in the country is still high despite a slight drop in the recent past (Kearns 155). The number of homeless people in that year decreased by 3.7% nationally, representing in all the three subgroups (homeless families, individuals and veterans). In regards to the regions, 20 states reported increase in the number while 31 states reported decrease in the number of homeless. In total, about 610,042 people were homeless in that year, showing the need for supporting agencies in order to cater for them. Out of this population, about 40% lack basic needs since there was no any governmental or non-governmental agency to provide food, shelter, education or health care to them. These numbers show there is a large gap that needs to be filled in order to ensure these unattended homeless become responsible members of the society.

How agency is different

Although there are other agencies that are providing these services, our agency has its own uniqueness and advantage that will make it more efficient in catering for the homeless. We provide a lot more than what other outreach programs can offer to their people. Our connection with the community gives us a very diverse staffs who come to help people who need a hand or a second chance. We have members of the health care field who volunteer their time and resources to help treat and facilitate members of our community. Our programs are going beyond just providing food and shelter that are provided by many homeless organizations such as justgive, bouldershelter and NNEDV housing. This is through provision of a comprehensive program that is aimed to see homeless become responsible members of the society through creating a self-sustaining path.
