The theatre in the era of Emile Zola was greatly linked with the life of a common person, and therefore, the performance institution represented the life events of people on the road. The realistic picture of the theatre attracted many people as audience during the midst of twentieth century. The element of drama was missing from the stage of performing arts. However, as the time passed, people grew bored from the prevalent practices of theatre, and therefore, a novel artistic regime found its way into the walls of modern theatre (Gerould, 167). Theatre evolved into an educational realm where people became in direct contact with the philosophical realities of life. The role of Bertoll Brecht will remain memorable in this regard. Additionally, there is not a lot of different present in the both abovementioned approaches because the first one was no doubt primitive in nature, but it indeed provided the basis for the modern nature of the business.
The contemporary approach takes the lives of general public, and derives philosophical results from them, and the previous one was reporting the facts that the common person was facing during his or her daily lives. The quality of theatre improved as the field transformed into a commercial one with the passage of time, and therefore, it is imperative to note that in the early days, theatrical performances were taken and treated as hobby, but nowadays, the field has emerged as a fully functioning profession with high pays as well.
The element of commercialism has moved the competitive pressures to the next level as well, and the directors, producers and actors are working day in and day out in order to remain at the top of their game. The writers are spending countless number of hours in front of their computers in order to find inspiration that they can use to jolt their creativity. The media of theatrical stage emerged as an informal means of entertainment during the period of Zola. However, the field grew complex as the world clock moved forwards. The characters developed liveliness and the audience enjoyed their knowledgeable personalities as well. The era of Zola recorded stage as a source of entertainment, but the period of Brecht transformed the art of live performance into alive piece of artistic tendency that can be understood by every human being regardless of his or her racial background.
The message of communal equality, and humanism was conveyed through the operational functioning of the thoughts that the founder of modern theater presented along ago. The innovative spirit sowed by Brecht is still dwelling into the very fabric of the latest form of the profession. The theatre of the 21st century has transformed into philosophical depiction that a normal person cannot understand. The identity of pre-modern theatre has to find reinstatement so that the missing link between the art and people can find life once again.
In the conclusion, this paper is forced to acknowledge that the world of theater is moving into circles because it is approaching the point where its development was started years ago. Additionally, naturalism and modernity of the theatre has to operate hand in hand in order to meet the realistic and philosophical needs of the art.
