o The Name of the Law and the Law’s Short or Common Name: Oil Pollution Act or OPA; previous acts known as Oil Pollution Liability and Compensation Act of 1989
o Description of the Events or Circumstances that Prompted the Development of the Law:
The law was enacted in August of 1990 due to the pressing public clamor that allegedly ensued from the oil spill incident that happened regarding Exxon Valdez .
o Personal Explanation of the Law: OPA was put into law to enable the federal government to apply the appropriate response regarding incidences resulting to oil spills.
