Thermodynamics is a field of physics that deals with the transformation of mechanical energy into thermal energy or the transformation of health to work (Conserve-Energy-Future, 2013). The first law of thermodynamics states that there is internal energy increases and such is manifested by temperature increase or pressure increase or phase changes (Conserve-Energy-Future, 2013). When heat is changed into other energy forms, or when other energy forms are changed into heat, the overall amount of energy is constant. The second law of thermodynamics states that it is impossible for an engine unaided by outside energy to transpose heat from one body to another at a greater temperature (Conserve-Energy-Future, 2013). Heat will always flow from high temperature to low temperature. It is not possible to use the massive amount of heat in the ocean, for instance, to operate an engine unless there can be found a reservoir at a reduced temperature into which the engine can give off heat. The third law of thermodynamics relates to a condition known as absolute zero (Conserve-Energy-Future, 2013).
There are different types of fuel used for energy. This includes fossil fuel, nuclear energy, solar energy, wind power, and hydropower. Fossil fuel includes coal, oil, and natural gas. Fossil fuels have been utilized to provide power to the world. It is reliable and inexpensive (Maehlum, 2013). However, fossil fuel contributes to global warming. Fossil fuels that are non-renewable are products of many years of the anaerobic disintegration of organic matter. Moreover, fossil fuels are unsustainable and incentivized. Petroleum, natural gas, and coal received over $4.22 billion in direct subsidies. Nuclear energy, on the other hand, is beneficial because of its low discharge of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (Maehlum, 2013). Nuclear energy is likewise low in terms of operating costs. Nuclear energy is recognized technology prepared for the market. However, with nuclear energy accidents can happen. This can create a great threat to the environment and is very dangerous for people.
Solar energy is a supply that is not just economical for energy utilization but also renewable. It is used to make electricity, as well as in generally basic innovation to heat water.
Solar panels also entail minimum upkeep. They are reliable in the sense that that they can effectively create power in simply a couple of millimeters and do not require any mechanical parts that can come up short. The main drawback of solar energy is that it can only be utilized on daytime. Its function is greatly affected during times of cloud cover and most especially during nighttime. Wind power is clean energy because it doesn’t cause air pollution. It is renewable because it is free as well cost-effective because it doesn’t require you to spend any cash in order to enjoy the benefits that the wind energy can provide for your home or business. Given the cost effectiveness of wind energy, this means extra savings for land owners. On the other hand, wind energy is unreliable because, in the event of bad weather, this may trigger the shortage of power. It may also threaten wildlife most especially to birds and other flying creatures. The turbines may create noises that would make some people complain.
Water (hydro) power is renewable because it utilizes the earth’s water to generate electricity. It is also eco-friendly because of its clean energy source. It has low operating and maintenance cost. On the other hand, hydropower can cause danger to marine life as it can destroy the homes of marine animals. It can also affect the capability of some power plant to generate electricity. Another disadvantage of hydropower is the step-up cost. The generation of hydropower is lavish. It is the motivation behind why the organizations that oversee it keeps sufficient plan particularly for the support. Hydropower also causes danger to human life. There are common that a few dams are crumbling, and this can likewise trigger disasters such us flash floods that are the motivation behind why it needs normal checking to keep away from this occurrence. Biofuel is advantageous in the sense that that are produced from organic material and plants. It can be easily replenished. Moreover, biofuels are clean and environment-friendly. They are flexible and inexpensive. Biofuel is carbon neutral. This implies that the amount of carbon dioxide developed by burning the biofuel is equivalent to the absorption capacity of the carbon dioxide.
The Energy Policy Act (EPA) responds to the production of energy in the United States, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, coal, tribal energy, and gas and oil (Www2.epa.gov, 2015). It also includes security and nuclear matters, motor and vehicle fuels such as ethanol, electricity, hydrogen, geothermal energy, and climate change technology (Www2.epa.gov, 2015). The act offers loan guarantees for certain organizations that use or develop innovative technologies that prevent the by production of greenhouse gasses. In addition, the act increases the biofuel amount that must be combined with gasoline vended in the United States. The two acts are beneficial in preventing further damage to the atmosphere through their call for activities that lessen damage to the atmosphere (Www2.epa.gov, 2015).
