Global warming is caused by both natural and human actions (Krogh 1). However, the human activities contribute to a higher percentage of the warming of the atmosphere compared to natural causes. Industries use certain chemicals to manufacture products, for example, chlorofluorocarbons that harm the ozone layer. In the process of using chlorofluorocarbons, they pollute the environment with a high concentration of carbon dioxide. The ozone layer is vital because it secures the earth from the sun’s ultraviolet radiation (Krogh 1). Farmers that grow their crops using greenhouses also contribute to global warming. The earth is supposed to reflect back sunlight or take it in then release it as energy. However, the greenhouse gases that include water vapor and carbon dioxide absorb this energy resulting in global warming. Another man-made contribution to global warming is deforestation. Trees store carbon dioxide; therefore, when they are cut the carbon is released to the atmosphere. High measures of carbon dioxide in the air attract sunlight resulting in global warming (Krogh 1). Photosynthesis changes carbon dioxide (Environmental Protection Agency) to carbon and store is in plants. So, when trees are cut down, photosynthesis will seize to occur.
Usually, most plants and animals live in locations with a distinct level of temperature and rainfall. Global warming affects these climate conditions hence disrupting the lives of plants and animals. Animals are forced to relocate to areas that have weather that they can survive in. The polar bears from North America have relocated to areas with low temperature since their bodies thrive in such a climatic condition. Animals that hibernate are forced to do so earlier than usual or relocate to areas with favorable climate. As for plants, they are compelled to mature earlier when the temperatures are still high so that they can survive when the temperatures fall.
Global warming makes water in the ocean warmer hence affecting the lives of fish and corals, which are their shelters. Additionally, too much carbon dioxide in the air acidifies the water leading to the death of fish and other animals in the water. Global warming makes the earth warmer forcing animals and plants to relocate to colder areas. However, as is, the case increase in global warming will result in the death of all plants and animals. Every plant and animals depend on the other, so extinction of one will lead to the death of many others. Plants and animals depend on each other for food, shelter and so on.
Human beings have to take up measures to reduce their contribution to global warming. Gases emitted from greenhouses must be minimized to the lowest levels. Since it is impossible to decrease the emission of gases to zero, and then they have to be kept to a minimum to avoid altering the concentration of gases in the atmosphere (Environmental Protection Agency 1). A way has to invent to trap carbon dioxide and prevent too much of it from going to the atmosphere. People should be demoralized from chopping down trees (Environmental Protection Agency 1) and if they have to then they should plant another one in its place.
It is imperative to do something as an individual to help curb global warming. I would like to live peacefully with plants, animals and the earth because we all depend on one another. Plants and animals are my sources of food, so if they become extinct then I will starve to death. On the other hand, the earth is my home so I must take good care of it.
