Do You Think That Tucker Should Select The Transplant Operation? Case Study Example

In my opinion, I have the feeling that Tucker should select the transplant operation option other than leaving the liver untreated. This is because the chance of survival for several years after the transplant operation is very high compared to that of survival if the liver is left untreated. Following the probabilities provided, 20% of patients who remain untreated survive for two years. On the other hand, 20% of the patients who undergo transplant operation have the chance to survive for five years. Ideally, this is a clear indication that Tucker has a great chance to survive for many years if he undergoes liver transplant operation than remaining untreated. To a greater extend it implies that the only chance for surviving for more than five years is by undertaking the transplant operation (Krajewski & Ritzman, 2013).
However, it is also good to consider the other side of coin. There is a possibility that Tucker is going to die during the transplant operation especially if he lies among the five per cent lot. In such a case, it would be at a risk of not surviving (Cloe, 2010). On the other hand, he may fall among the 8%, 5% and 4% whose survival duration is 15, 20, and 25 years respectively. Looking at those prospects one can say that the greater chance of survival for a patient with a serious liver problem lies on the transplant operation option. Although this option is very risk, I find it more suitable for the case of Tucker. As a result, I strongly recommend Tucker to select the transplant operation in order to increase his chances of survival other than dying within a year (Thomas, 2012).
