In Obama’s discussion on labor, education, gender, and equal opportunity, he made it a point to pause. The pauses are perfect as the basis issues are the core of American dream that everyone elsewhere in the world would like to pursue. Particularly in the phrase that says, “Give them a raise,” (Obama, 2014) he paused and made a serious but sincere facial expression. The phrase is his punch line when talking about raising the salaries per hour of hard working Americans from the blue collared jobs to the white collared ones. Because wage is one of the most pressing issues in the country, Obama’s pause gave way for sincere and deafening applause from the audience.
Moreover, when he talked about the equal opportunity of women in the workplace, he made it a point to raise his voice to tell the world that he is serious in addressing the gender gaps within the United States of America. He stressed and paused in the phrase that says, “If women succeed, America succeeds,” (Obama, 2014).
