Example Of Essay On How Do We Change Our Thinking To Counter The Effects Of Technology?
Jacques Ellul in his article, The Technological Order, posits that technique has been regarded as the new milieu where all social phenomena are situated upon. In this regard, social facets such as economic issues, politics as well as culture are situated within technique. They are not modified or affected by technique. He also asserts that the political facets of the current generation are described in regard to their relationship with technology. The end of human being is survival; technology facilitates human survival, however, expansion of industrial technology has threatened human survival. In order to counter the effects of technology, it is critical to change human thinking: The question that emerges is how can human thinking be changed to counter the effects of technology? To begin with, it is imperative to acknowledge the fact that technology is idea or the work of human beings. That is, human beings are the creators of technology; as such, it is apparent that humans have absolute control on the effects or the dimensions of technology they produce. This gives human the capacity to create or control the effects of technology. Humans should be made to understand the technology is a product of their ideas, therefore, they have an adequate capacity to counter its effects.
Despite the fact that technology has enhanced human life and it is becoming evident as time goes on that human are becoming more independent on technology, it is also crucial to consider the fact that before the advent of technology, humans lived and performed various activities in a better way. In this regard, the society can be made aware that they do not have to depend on technology for survival. There are certain activities that can be done manually and in a better way. This will eliminate over-reliance on technological facets, hence reducing the impacts of technology.
In the perspective of Jacques, technology has also affected the ideas and beliefs of men leading to a scenario of social disequilibrium. This has affected various perspectives of human judgment. In order to counter this challenge, man can engage in mastering his manual operational techniques, enabling him to have control over technology.
