Many issues in the world seek the world’s attention to solving and healing the problems of various people suffering due to a wide range of reasons. Many of the major ongoing issues that are affecting humanity on a large scale are usually related to terrorist and extremist elements that are wrecking havoc all around the globe. One concerning the dilemma is the rising alarm in Nigeria of the militant predicament, where Jihadists have taken over spreading terror and threat in the country.
For me, this issue is interesting since it concerns humanity itself, where certain extremist elements of the society are adamant in spreading their voice by the use of the sword and violence to get submission from the people of the country. The intriguing is that the agenda raised by the Nigerian Jihadists, calling themselves Boko Haram, is not ethnic or social in nature, rather it is religion-oriented and aimed at turning the entire nation into a chosen Islamist state. In the process of doing so, these militants do not care for child or man, girl or boy, women or the elderly and its targets are humanity, overall. The whole world was shaken when the Paris attack took place; however, what concerns the world also is the massacre of about two thousand children, women and elderly people at the hands of Boko Haram. This is a humanitarian crisis. Not only that, the abduction of two hundred schoolgirls was also a deeply mortifying case where the lives of young children were at severe risk. The constant issues of killings, massacres, kidnappings and brutal violence have no end being put to them and are on the constant rise with no one ailing the oppressed and helpless people of Nigeria.
What concerns me is the way this global issue, of much high importance, is being addressed to the world and how it is being dealt with. Rather, how this issue is on the ignore list and the people suffering from this have no hopes of alleviation from this cruelty. When a few people in France die, there is a Millions March arranged for them, and their story is brought to the world with all sympathy from people from all walks of life. The question here is why aren’t they mentioned and why are not any voices raised for them? Is there some larger agenda behind this commotion rather than just a religious motive? For surely, if no one would speak about it, then there has to be some political reason.
Moving on to the only way to save Nigeria, I agree with the views of Prof. Ben Nwabueze. Democracy can never be successful in Nigeria because of the corrupt socio-political environment. Democracy has the role to sustain the institutions that keep an eye on the power handlers of the country. Yet, the leaders who hold power have no one to report to. Thus, leading to disfunctionality and corruption at its peak. The only solution and relief for the Nigerians is a violent and drastic Revolution. Looking at the situation in Nigeria, and the way the world leaders have ignored it completely; it only seems reasonable that Nigerians stand up for themselves and kill all their leaders once and for all. It is the only way Nigerians will have a chance to cleanse the corrupt system from the elitist leeches.
