Among all countries, Canada is rather unique in a sense that it is known for a divide between high culture and low culture. This division is largely determined by well-defined Canadian traditions of art, literature, and theatrical works, which caused trouble throughout the entire Canadian history. In Canadian culture, “high culture” pertains to Canadian traditions that are exclusively and apparently manifested in the members of the higher income class in Canada: wealthy and elite Canadians who have immediate and convenient access to fine artistic works that are mostly imported from other countries. Artworks like paintings, literary texts, and plays that are produced from European countries and Latin America. The act of replicating imported artworks was coined as “amateurs” that were placed under the low culture category. In effect, high culture in Canada refers to the traditions of the members of the aristocracy. However, this “high culture” convention began to change into a generalized “Canadian culture” that renders the high culture more of an artistic element than a political or social element such that writers, playwright, and artists are given more respect than any other kind of people in Canada.

High Culture between Saudi Arabia and Canada

Unlike Canada wherein the notion for “high culture” is based on the ability to avail to high quality artistic works, Saudi Arabia employs a high-context culture in a sense that their culture is highly organized that unspoken information are relayed more through the actions than through words. The high-context culture of Saudi Arabia seemingly binds its people to enact a oneness in practice, rules, and structure. There are many locally observed practices that are well-oriented to the Arabians and are observed by the general populace; and they do not necessarily have to be verbalized but only acted upon. While both Canada and Saudi Arabia are high context culture, Saudi’s notion for it is more cultural in focus.
