Christian monoecism is a form of the ascetic pursuit that Christians adopt in life for the purpose of living a life that is entirely devoted to God. It is characterized by chastity, prayers, fasting, good works, confessions, silence and obedience as a way of “returning” to God. Often, monastery is always a solitary act; however, it can be done as a community. In addition, the Act advocates prayer and work as a way of submission to God through one’s life. Also, prayer and work ensures that an individual will always acknowledge the presence of God throughout his/her lifetime. While this is practiced, it has impacted the cultures of many Christians, lifestyle, and church as well as discussed in the paper.
Nuns and Monks are examples of Christians who practiced monasteries from earlier centuries to date, notably; a lot of self-discipline comes with this practice. The monasteries are believed to “withdraw” from the society, as a way of describing and explaining their solitary ways till date. In the quest to settle for a solitary life and showing devotion to God, these respective parties settled far from cities and towns and sought a life of self-denial. Additionally, the places they resolve for are considered “inhospitable”, an important aspect of promoting solitary life and a giving life. On the contrary, the places where they settle could flourish, that is, the society around the “inhospitable” places benefit from the services of these monasteries. While others offer education, nursing experiences and skills in particular fields, others choose to stick around to offer guidance and instructions to the society around.
In terms of arts, monastic obligation, initially called for monks and nuns to serve God in artistically defined way, through a partnership with visual arts, buildings or books that made religious houses. Apart from the need to make monasticism attractive, introduction of regulations, such as life of celibacy by men and women, was introduced in the monastic community. It was a way of encouraging discipline and a spiritual life, and like noted earlier, it was a way of devoting to God as well.

Conclusion

Notably, all these practices are upheld to date and are portrayed by various Christians in the society today. Monastery was the beginning of a culture that would give to the society; help the people around as well and, above all, fear God. Today, many hospitals, education institutions, churches, and communities have prospered through this practice, with improved living standards of life seen from the surrounding communities. Notably, monastic orders are meant for “purity” and focus on the ultimate goal, which is living a life that entirely serves God, while the people around such practices benefit as well.
