Good Example Of Essay On The Death Penalty

The death penalty is the most controversial topic today. People are arguing on a daily basis on whether the death penalty should be penalized or not. Different people have given their various issues on the death penalty. After an explicit examination of the people’s views, I can give an account on capital punishment in different ways. It should, however, be noted that I still support capital punishment.
First, opponents claim death punishment is ‘barbaric’. Capital punishment should not be dropped as it assists in maintaining the orderliness in the society. If such like penalties are dropped, people will be involved in committing heinous crimes without being punished. The world is focusing more on this than other things like cure of cancer (Bruck, 1985).
Second, if the murder rate in the United States of America would have been small, then there would never have been a need for the death penalty. But because murder is on high rate, there is need to discipline the perpetrators of the killing crimes through the capital punishment (Bruck, 1985).
Third, some people argue that innocent people might be executed mistakenly. According to Mr. Bedau, there is a study that was carried out for 7000 executions in the country from 1893 and 1971 and showed that no execution was carried out on an innocent person. Death penalty should therefore not be stopped due to the mere reason of innocent soul executions (Bruck, 1985).
Fourth, capital punishment improves the value of life. If sentences on perpetrators of death crimes were lowered, then it would have meant cheapening the value of people’s lives. Lessening the death penalty will make the perpetrators repeat the crimes again knowing well that the punishment is not stiff (Bruck, 1985).
Additionally, the death penalty is argued as being applied discriminately. Discriminatory application should not be accepted at all. There are measures that have been put in place to do away with this. Other people always cite the 6th rule in the Ten Commandments Thou shalt not kill. Several scholars and thinkers have agreed with this while others have upheld the rule. The US constitution condemns killing people but does not condemn executing criminals (Bruck, 1985).
On the other hand, I do not support murder and killing of people recklessly. Governments should not therefore use this to execute their political opponents or advance another agenda. The death penalty should be continued on the perpetrators of heinous acts (Bruck, 1985).
In conclusion, the death penalty has been advanced by many as being controversial although the opponents have not taken time keenly to observe the reasons for the death penalty. According to me, it is the best way to punish the criminal perpetrators.
