Public Relations For Non-Profit Companies Essay Example

Public Relations refers to the practice by companies, persons or institutions to project a good image to the public/clients. Through effective communication and strategic public relations, a company maintains a good relationship with its clients. Non-profit organizations are organizations that undertake its activities with no intention of making profits. Non-profit organizations exist for the good of the public, and are in many countries, exempted from taxation. Public relations is essential for non-profit companies to maintain a good relationship with its target clients and host.
PR is essential for non-profit companies to attract aid and support for their causes, get volunteers to work for them, educate the public on their causes and also to influence government legislation on matters relating to their cause. PR is beneficial for such organizations since it increases funds from donors, helps in networking with other organizations of interest, maintains a good relationship with the public, host and donors. Strategic PR ensures that the organization works towards achieving its goals.
Non-profit companies can engage in many PR activities like press releases, conducting fairs to enlighten the public on its activities, conducting fundraising events and using social media to gain support for their cause. They, however, face certain challenges like constant budget cuts due to inconsistent donor funding, stiff competition from other non-profit organizations and lack of volunteers. Several non-profit organizations, for example, Save the Children and Project Hope, have engaged PR to help them overcome challenges.
Even though non-profit organizations do not compete in making profits, they compete for funds, volunteers and public awareness. Using PR ensures that non-profit companies gains grounds in furthering their cause.
