Research Paper On American Family Association

Nowadays the development of modern democracy within the United States has been logically followed by the great increase of the role of multiple non-profit organizations that impact the social environment within the country. One of the most well-known organizations that specify on the role of family and religion in life of American people is American Family Association. This organization is supporting values of fundamentalist Christian religion and opposes same sex marriages, abortions, transsexual propensities and pornography.
However, the role of this organization is not limited to the support of the conservative religious values and disregarding the modern social tendencies. American Family Association is extremely active in political sphere and it successfully lobbies for and against many political initiatives. One of the most famous examples of the political activeness of the organizations is lobbying against the 2009 Employee Free Choice Act (Wong 2014).
As current organization is extremely influential and reputable for the serious number of American citizens, special interest represent its’ current actions and events connected with the social activity of its members. Specifically, the recent presentation of the new map that the organization defined as “Anti-Christian Bigotry Map” became a real topic for a discussion. The current map identifies the geographical position of all lesbian, bisexual, homosexual and transgender advocacy organizations within the United States.
The current program defines these organizations as atheist, anti-Christian or the ones with the “homosexual agenda”. The last ones are also classified as the groups that support and promote same-sex marriages advocate for its legalization as well as discrimination of Christian people that follow their right guaranteed by the First Amendment to support the word of a God and his plan for a marriage as a saint ceremony between one man and one woman.
They oppose such organizations as Human Rights Campaign and Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network that are also one of the most well-known social organizations that act at the territory of the United States (Mehta 2015).
This issue represents a new challenge of the Constitution and the society that has to deiced whether the right for religious freedom gives right to violate the constitutional freedoms of the other individuals. The Constitution here is used in the beneficiary way by the one group of society to promote their rights, but at the same time to harm the right of the other social group.
The right to practice, develop and protect Christian religious traditional does not give the right to violate the constitutional right for marriage and the supporting laws that give right to the same-sex couples to marry in the number of states.
The main argument of the AFA is that Christian religion faces a serious violation from the organizations that support same-sex marriages and that the series of representatives of the following organizations have committed crimes against Christian people and faith-groups (Wong 2015).
However, the series of committed crimes is not a tendency and the same arguments can be represented by the other side as homosexuals, lesbians and transsexuals has been facing serious violations during the whole history of the country and the number of crimes committed against these people is much more numerous that it can be imagined.
A lot of social activists, journalists and culture leaders beard this radical and provocative map. One of the most bright replies was given by Hayley Miller who said that it is said that AFA as one of the biggest pro-family organizations in the country that positions itself as the one on the cultural frontline, forgot to include to the map list of the most bigoted organizations in the United States – itself (Wong, 2014).
Therefore, the religious freedom that somehow gives people right to insult and violate the constitutional right of the other people is under the dispute. This issue requires serious political debates and possible new inclusion and amendments to the main law of the country.
