A fiction is a fabricated story of the invention that has no reality in it. It is an invented story which is fashionable with the primary intention of entertaining the reader or the audience. ‘The elephant in the blind village.’ is a fiction story used in 'The Norton Introduction to Literature,' by Marry Kelly. From this story, the use of the essential elements of a fiction story are described below.
The characters in a fiction story can be given emotional, mental, and favorable social qualities. The elephant is the main character. Other characters used are the traveler, the villagers, four young mothers and the elders. The elephant is given traits of an animal capable of doing amazing things. The characters in a story are personified to have the qualities of a living thing. Character development is the change undergone by a character from the beginning of a story to the end. For example, the elephant develops from a storage smelling creature to a powerful horse.
The plot is the general order in which the events move within a story. There are different methods in which a plot can be developed. A plot can use a chronological order, flashback, a person against society, or a person against oneself. From the story ‘The elephant in the blind village’ the writer uses a chronological plot. The plot usually presents a conflict from the beginning and the means for solving the conflict in the conclusion. Nonetheless, it explains how the conflict was resolved. The conflict in this case is defining what an elephant is.
Setting of a fiction story involves the time and the place where the story centers around. From the story, the setting is on a village, high on the mountain. The theme is the central idea that moves the story. The story can contain more than one theme. The central theme in this story is a lack of civilization.
